You can store your CleverClientsData
(and similar) folder in the cloud. You can use any service e.g.
Dropbox, GoogleDrive and SkyDrive.
These cloud services synch a folder on your computer with cloud
storage i.e. whenever you change anything in the drive the change
is copied to a remote server. You can have several computers
attached to the same cloud storage and any changes are reflected
on all computers a short time later.
The reasons for using these services are:
- They provide a secure backup of your CleverClientsData
folder(s).
- You can run CleverClients on your data from several
computers, but not at the same time!
CleverClients access works on the principle that you can only be
in one place at a time. Hence you cannot use CleverClients on one
computer while your secretary uses the software on another. In
particular, you need to give the cloud service
time to copy changes between computers.
So if you start up your laptop or connect to the internet,
wait until the cloud service is in sync.
The CleverClients software will check if it is in use at different
locations when it is started.
You need to decide which service to use:
- DropBox is extremely widely used and offers 2GB free.
- SkyDrive is Microsoft's service so may be the best choice
for Windows 7 and 8 boxes. Also available for Mac. You get 7GB
of free storage but need a MS login (usually a hotmail
account).
- GoogleDrive is quite new. You get 5GB of free storage.
If you use CleverClients on different platforms you will want to
use a cloud service that supports them all e.g. Dropbox.
Obviously look on the Net.
You will have to download software for the one you choose.
To use with CleverClients,
move your
CleverClientsData folder to the cloud folder , restart
CleverClients, and give the new location of your data folder.
If you run CleverClients from several computers you can install on
each new computer, which will put the files into the shared cloud
folder each time. You need to use the same version of CleverClients
on each computer.
